Words of our alumni

This was an amazing course and I am excited to take my learning into the workplace. Thank you for allowing us to still get into the videos and slides for the next few months because I will continue to visit those until the time is up. I believe in learning by going over and over the material multiple times. thank you for your time, energy and love of this topic!

People Director
What was really beneficial about this course was the pacing and realistic time commitments. We're all busy and in my role, July is actually the time where I'm going full speed toward the new semester. Being able to set aside a couple hours each week for the virtual sessions while working on the asynchronous parts here and there felt like the perfect amount of engagement.
Do you have any Questions

Who should take this course?
LMSI 1: The Manager is designed for current and aspiring managers in libraries and related organizations who want to strengthen their leadership and management skills. It’s especially valuable if you’re navigating new responsibilities, leading diverse teams, or looking for practical tools to improve communication, decision-making, and trust.
How long is this course and what is the format?
The course runs for 3 weeks and is delivered fully online. It combines:
-
Synchronous learning: four live virtual sessions (9 hours total) facilitated by DJA faculty.
-
Asynchronous learning: 7–9 hours of videos, exercises, and reflection activities you complete on your own schedule.
How does LMSI 1 compare to LMSI 2?
LMSI 1: The Manager focuses on the individual as a leader—building emotional intelligence, facilitative leadership, feedback skills, and decision-making. LMSI 2: The Organization builds on that foundation, focusing more on organizational culture, systems, and leading change. Many participants choose to take both in sequence for a comprehensive development path.
What types of organizations typically
LMSI alumni come from academic libraries, public libraries, special libraries, and consortia, as well as related cultural and educational institutions. Because the skills are universally applicable, participants also join from non-library organizations looking for strong management foundations in inclusive leadership.
What if I can't attend a live session?
We strongly encourage attending live to get the most benefit, but we know schedules can be unpredictable. All live sessions are recorded, and you’ll have access to the recordings if you miss a session or want to review it again.
What do I get access to after the course?
You’ll have access to all recordings, tools, and resources for 6 months after the program ends. Many participants revisit the templates and videos as they apply the concepts in real time with their teams.
Will I receive a certificate?
Yes. Participants who complete the program receive a virtual certificate of completion, which can be shared on résumés and LinkedIn profiles.
Do you offer group rates?
Yes. Organizations often send multiple managers through the program to build a shared leadership language and culture. Group discounts are available—please contact deetta@deettajones.com for details.
