Speaker 1 (00:02):

Culture Road. Good morning, good afternoon, good evening my friends. One of my favorite wellness practices over this last year has been just to wake up, take a walk, helps me clear my mind while also setting my intention for the day. But this time I want to bring you all with me. I want to have a conversation about something I've always found extremely important. Last night I went to an event titled Health and Wealth, hosted by a couple of great friends of mine here [00:00:30] in Tampa, Florida. Both of them are amazing leaders and innovators in the financial wellness space and the symposium in Showcase provided insights, gave platform for discussion about best practices and financial literacy. After the event, I walked up to both of them and after congratulating them on a successful event, I asked them, what got you both here? Not just caring about the subject and knowing about the importance of it, but what got you to the place [00:01:00] of wanting to provide space or wanting to give a platform to be able to pour into others?

(01:05):

And they both looked at each other and they said the same thing. Mentorship, where that conversation led to is us kind of diving into and brainstorming on what are the key components of mentorship? Why is it so important? What value does it bring and how is it different than friendship and typical advice. The first thing we agreed on is that mentorship provides an even balance of challenge and support. [00:01:30] A great mentor is there to support you throughout what you're going through, support you through your fears, support you through things that you're not comfortable with, but they're also there to challenge you, to put you in positions that they think that you're going to be able to grow in because you might not be comfortable. The second component is that it's advice, but advice with strategy based on experience. Anyone can give you advice, but someone who has walked in the same path or a similar path as you before is able to give you strategic advice [00:02:00] based on things that they've seen, all the knowledge that they have gained over the years in whatever industry, avenue, hobby or lane that you might be seeking mentorship in.

(02:10):

And they put you in specific intentional positions to be able to succeed. Layered in with that, even balance of challenge and support, and those are some of the key components of mentorship. So what I want us to do, think about do we have mentors, and if you do not, maybe try to consider what are some areas and some ways [00:02:30] that I might be able to find some amazing people that might be able to breathe life into my situation that might be able to believe in me at times where I don't believe in myself, but also how can I be a mentor? How can I reach out to somebody who I know might need some guidance and provide some insights and provide some strategic advice from the things that I do know in any way? Have a great day.
