This session provides an overview of the landscape - the global forces in society and the marketplace today that are shaping EDI post-2020. Finding Common Ground: How to Engage in Critical Intercultural Dialogue to Strengthen Relationships
Research finds that while diversity ultimately adds great value to teams and organizations it brings with it differences in beliefs, values, perspectives, and styles that necessitate dialogue for understanding. This session explores the cross-cultural communication skills and cultural agility competencies needed to engage in intercultural dialogue that builds bridges of understanding and helps to create common ground for strong working relationships.

Dr. Mansour Javidan

Dr. Mansour Javidan

Multiple award-winning executive educator and author whose teaching and research interests span the globe, Dr. Mansour Javidan received his MBA and Ph.D. degrees from the Carlson School at the University of Minnesota. He is the Garvin Distinguished Professor and Director of Najafi Global Mindset Institute at Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University.
Mansour is the Past President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the world-renowned research project on national culture and leadership, titled GLOBE (Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness, globeproject.com). He is a coeditor of the 2004 GLOBE book, which won the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychologys (SIOP) "M. Scott Myers Award for Applied Research in The Workplace. He is also a coauthor of the latest GLOBE book, published in August, 2014 which received the 2015 University of San Diego and International Leadership Association (ILA) leadership book award for "Scholarly Rigor and Critical Thought.
Mansour is currently the Project Director and Principal Co-Investigator of GLOBE 2020, working with a team of 423 researchers studying culture change, leadership ideals, and trust dynamics. The project has received close to $1.5 million in funding and has completed data collection from over 60000 managers and professionals in 142 countries. Mansour’s article on global leadership recently received the Decade’s Best Paper Award (2006- 2016) by the Academy of Management Perspectives. Dr. Javidan was recently recognized as among the top 100 most influential (i.e., top 0.6%) authors in Organization Behavior in the world. He is also recognized as among the top 2% most cited scientists in the field of business and management in the world.
The World Bank and the United Nations Development Program have designated Dr. Javidan an expert advisor on Global Leadership. NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) has designated him an expert on managing diversity, and the U.S. Army has designated him a Senior Research Fellow. He recently stepped down as the Vice Chair of the Board of Directors

Thais Compoint is a multiple award-winning global specialist in inclusion, diversity, equity and belonging. Her achievements have been acknowledged with 16 awards world-wide, including the prestigious “2020 Top Global Diversity and Inclusion Leaders Award”. Thais spoke at 3 TEDx events and is the author of the book “Succeed As An Inclusive Leader”. Thais is also the founder and CEO of Déclic International, a boutique consultancy that she created in 2016, after leading successfully the inclusion & diversity strategies of three Fortune 500 companies: Vinci, Coca-Cola Enterprises and Cisco. Since 2019, in addition to her consultancy work, Thais has also led the inclusion & diversity strategy in Europe, Latin America, Middle East, Asia and Canada for Gilead, a major American biotech company. Thais is a true world citizen as she speaks fluently 5 languages, lived in 6 countries, led projects globally and worked in 25 countries in 4 continents.

Derric J. Johnson

Derric currently serves as Commissioner, Vice President, Los Angeles County Human Relations Commission and is Founding Director of The Equity and Justice Institute. Prior, Derric was Senior Deputy, Public Safety and Justice for the Office of Los Angeles County Board Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas. During his tenure, Derric’s numerous legislative achievements included: establishing the Civilian Oversight Commission of the Sheriff’s Department to increase transparency, policing accountability and to decrease officer-involved shootings; leading the efforts to reform the largest Probation Department in the United States; advancing policy initiatives to improve deficiencies in cultural competency and systemic implicit biases, instituting the Fair Chance Ordinance for LA County that would eliminate restrictions on employment opportunities based solely on criminal convictions, and attaining $30M increase in State allocations for court-appointed dependency counsel to improve protections for foster youth in California. Derric serves as a Board Member for several non-profit organizations including Brilliant Corners, United Friends of the Children, and is an inaugural Executive Council Member of the Children’s Defense Fund-CA.

Dr. Mustafa F Ozbilgin

I am Professor of Organisational Behaviour at Brunel Business School, Brunel University, London and Co-Chair of Management and Diversity at the Université Paris Dauphine. My research focuses on equality, diversity and inclusion at work from comparative and relational perspectives. I have conducted field studies internationally and my work is empirically grounded. My edited book, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (Edward Elgar) brings together papers from over 30 scholars in the field and my other text, Global Diversity Management (co-authored with Ahu Tatli, Palgrave) provides evidence from international field studies. I have authored and edited ten books and published large number of papers in journals such as Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Learning and Education, British Journal of Management, Journal of Vocational Behavior, International Journal of Human Resource Management, Human Relations, Gender Work and Organization, Social Science and Medicine among others.

Won Palisoul, CFE

Won Palisoul is VP of SD Compliance and Co-Chair of Vets Recruitment at SG. In 2021, she was appointed to be the Special Assistant to the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness (P&R) at the Pentagon. Won supported the optimization of STEM talent management, elite training and education, quality family support, and resilience through Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA). During her year at the Pentagon, she collaborated with the Dept. of Labor, Veterans Affairs, Small Business Administration and the National Economic Council on supply chain and military transition programs.
Prior to the DoD, Won was an Associate Director of Investment Bank CORC at UBS and a Certified Fraud Examiner. She was also a Senior Compliance Officer of credit-focused asset management firm and hedge fund, a Compliance Consultant in crypto asset and a Compliance Examiner at an SRO for the U.S. derivatives industry. Won’s SRO examiner responsibilities included OTC derivatives, swap dealer compliance programs, and adherence to the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. Previously, she was an Office Manager for a retirement fund with $6 billion AUM and in 2012, she was named a Veteran Associate at the New York Stock Exchange.
Won began her career as a Gas Turbine Technician (Electrical) in the U.S Navy, serving aboard guided missile destroyers forward deployed in the Pacific region for Operation Enduring Freedom. After eight years of service (active and reserve), she received an honorable discharge and founded a small business that she ran for four years prior to transitioning into finance. After service, she founded Women Veterans and Families Network and serves on the DNC Vets and Military Families Council. Won is the Chair of Veterans Roundtable at CFA Society New York and the Co-Lead of Women Veterans on Wall Street (wVOWS), a subcommittee of VOWS. She works with leaders of Fortune 500 companies and nonprofits to facilitate roundtable discussions and DEIA best practices forums on hiring military veterans and military spouses.
Won holds an M.A. in IT Management from Webster University and an M.S. in Nonprofit Management from Columbia University’s School of Professional Studies (SPS). She is an adjunct associate faculty member of the M.S. in Human Capital Management Program and serves as an Alumni Advisory Council member at SPS. She was honored with the Alumni Dean’s Excellence Award and serves on the Board of Directors of ColumbiaDC Alumni Chapter. Won is married to a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and they have two children.

Sabrina Prince

Sabrina has more than 20 years of diverse expertise in healthcare marketing, including clinical research, public relations, and advertising. Curiosity drives her passion for connection with colleagues and clients alike - identifying growth opportunities in organic and new business ventures.
With a background in neuroscience and behavior, Sabrina coauthored papers and abstracts related to memory loss due to Alzheimer’s disease or seizure disorders during her tenure at the Cornell University Medical College and supervised the conduct of clinical trials in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder for companies such as Abbott, Bristol- Myers Squibb, Eli Lilly, Novartis, Sanofi-Synthelabo, and Pharmacia & Upjohn.
Sabrina holds a BA in neuroscience and behavior from Wesleyan University and is a Board Member and volunteer “skillanthropist” for the Business Council for Peace (Bpeace), an award-winning nonprofit organization that lifts communities in need by working with local entrepreneurs to scale their businesses, create employment, and expand the economic power of women.
The daughter of Caribbean parents, growing up a first-generation immigrant in the U.S. and an avid culinary traveler in the memory of Anthony Bourdain – for Sabrina, the notion of being a “champion” of equity, diversity and inclusion is an instinctual choice. Each challenge, each triumph, each moment of accomplishment has been the result of grit, grace and the generosity of others. When it comes to creating space for additional voices in discussions or decisions on how we shape our approach to conducting equitable, diverse and inclusive global business practices - we can always build a bigger table.
